AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 100m3/hr HT Lo-Cal ground flare to safely burn off the gases from an old closed landfill site. The gas range is 13 to 30% methane and the burn temperature range is 1000 - 1200 deg C. The flare is fitted with a Schneider HMI control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, gas pressure, hours run and flame temperature. The flare was designed and built with equipment to the latest industry standards. The flare is fitted with a telemetry system that allows our engineers to start, stop, interrogate and download stored data on the flare PLC, from our office in Coventry. The system texts out on alarms, power cuts and shutdowns and also texts the end user when it is back on line and operating.

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA.

AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 250m3/hr HT Lo-Cal ground flare to safely burn off the gases from an old closed landfill site. The gas range is 13 to 30% methane and the burn temperature range is 1000 - 1200 deg C. The flare is fitted with a Schneider HMI control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, gas pressure, flow, total flow, hours run, CH4, CO2, O2, CO and flame temperature. The Lo-Cal flare is the first of its type to be installed in Australia. The flare was designed and built with equipment to the latest industry standards. The flare is fitted with a telemetry system that allows our engineers to start, stop, interrogate and download stored data on the flare PLC, from our office in Coventry. The system texts out on alarms, power cuts and shutdowns and also texts the end user when it is back on line and operating.

AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 650m3/hr HT high temperature ground flare c/w a 6 inlet manifold and a 7 port gas analyser system all ATEX equipment, to safely burn off the gases from an operational landfill site. The flare is fitted with an HMI touch control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, gas pressure from 5 inlet points, flow and total flow via a thermal mass flow meter, hours run, louver position and flame temperature. Fitted with a telemetry system that sends SMS texts on alarms and a SCADA system for remote control and access.

AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 150m3/hr HT high temperature ground flare c/w inlet gas analyser, walkin weatherproof housing, acoustic enclosure around the gas booster, all ATEX equipment, to safely burn off the gases from an old landfill site. The flare is fitted with a Horner HMI touch control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, gas pressure, flow, total flow, hours run, louver position and flame temperature. Fitted with a telemetry system that sends SMS texts on alarms and a SCADA system for remote control and access. AFS also installed 17 gas wellheads & chambers, 5 KO pots and a gas collection system.

The flare is fitted with an Horner colour HMI touch control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, gas pressure, flow, total flow, hours run, louver position and flame temperature. Fitted with a telemetry system that sends SMS texts on alarms and daily e-mails with recorded data. The telemetry also allows for remote control.

AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 250m3/hr HT Lo-Cal ground flare to safely burn off the gases from an old closed landfill site. The gas range is 13 to 30% methane and the burn temperature range is 1000 - 1200 deg C. The flare is fitted with an Horner HMI control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, gas pressure, flow, total flow, hours run, louver position and flame temperature. The flare has a propane pilot that switches off once the main gas valve is open.

AFS designed, built, installed and commissioned a 1200m3/hr HT high temperature containerised ground flare for power generation c/w inlet gas analyser, duty standby gas boosters, all ATEX equipment, to safely deliver gas to 2 Jenbacher gas engines or burn off the gases from an operational landfill site. The flare is fitted with an Allen Bradley HMI control screen and PLC, digital readouts for gas booster speed, methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, gas delivery pressure to the engines, flow, total flow, hours run, louver position and flame temperature. The flare is linked to the engines for remote start stop.

AFS were commissioned to design and install a Lo-Cal flaring system for a landfill site in Avonmouth, UK.

The flaring system is rated to 100m3/hr and uses a landfill-propane gas mix for ignition.

Porto, Portugal

AFS designed, built and installed two gas booster skids with elevated flares for a 2MW power generation plant in Porto.

The booster skids supply gas at a constant pressure to two Jenbacher gas engines; the gas is pre-filtered down to 5 micron before leaving the booster skid.

The booster control panel is constantly communicating with the Jenbacher control system ensuring that the gas is delivered at the correct pressure and flow.

The flare is fully automatic in operation.

Wicklow, Ireland

AFS were appointed by Wicklow County Council to design, build and install a flaring system that would last the life-cycle of their new waste management facility.

We designed a flare that could safely extract gases being generated by the new facility; the flare could operate at up to 2000m3/hr but would also operate effectively at very low flow rates.

The current configuration includes a 700m3/hr gas booster and a 500m3/hr HT flare with an attached Gas Scrubber system.

The gases expected at the initial operation of the flare system would be very low in methane and high in oxygen concentrations. However, the gases would also contain high levels of H2S and mercaptans, which are responsible for the odours emitted by decomposing waste. Therefore we installed the gas scrubber to remove these contaminates and allow the gases to be either vented or flared through the chimney.

The fully automatic control system monitors the input gases including methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen and H2S.

Kildare, Ireland

AFS were appointed as the contractor to design, build and install a gas booster flaring system capable of power generation and gas control on a new waste management facility in Co. Kildare.

The flaring system:

  • has the facility to install additional gas scrubbing and filtration equipment at a later date if required.
  • meets all of the EPA requirements for landfill gas flaring systems.
  • can be upgraded from its current 500m3/hr capacity to 2000m3/hr by installing an additional chimney. This additional chimney will be required in 2-3 years time at the current rate of waste inputs.

The requirement was that the site operator would only need to purchase one flare for the full life-cycle of the site. With careful analysis, AFS were able to forecast the gas generation of the site for the next 20 years.

Having calculated the projected gas generation of the site, we specified our gas booster flaring system as the most suitable for the life-cycle of the site. The current flare has a capacity of 500m3/hr, which will increase to a capacity of 2000m3/hr following the specified upgrade of an additional chimney.

The flare has been designed with power generation in mind and is fitted with a two stage, 2000m3/hr gas booster, along with all the required control systems and equipment to facilitate the generation of power from landfill gas.

The flare is also fitted with a Siemens SCADA system (for on-site and remote monitoring), a data logger and SMS text messaging system.
